The testing will involve 40-pound cratering charges, with 10 charges detonated each day. Testing is scheduled between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting.
IAAAP officials say the noise may be heard outside the facility, but it is not expected to reach levels that would cause concern for the public. Testing could be delayed because of rain or high winds.
Officials also clarified that the upcoming testing is not connected to lead azide. The plant is currently storing unused lead azide production supplies that have been reclassified as hazardous waste and require safe disposal. Destruction of the lead azide is expected to take place later this year, and information about that operation will be shared with the public separately.
Safety remains a priority at IAAAP, with established procedures in place for testing and other operations.
