Henry Ewing, 80, of Delta, Iowa, passed away at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Henry Richard Ewing, son of Fred W. and Mildred Lucille (Showman) Ewing, was born on June 8, 1946, at his home in Delta, Iowa. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1964 and began farming in the Delta area. Henry began working for Amana Refrigeration in 1978 while continuing to farm and raise livestock. He retired from Amana Refrigeration in 2003 but continued farming until October 2025. Henry lived on the farm until his death.
Henry married Patricia “Pat” McKay, and from that union, four children were born: Lynn, Bryon, Carol, and Brad. They later divorced.
Raising livestock on his farm was one of Henry’s greatest treasures. He especially enjoyed raising, training, and showing Quarter Horses with his son, Brad. He was passionate about the care and nutrition of all his animals, and his dog Harley held a special place in his heart.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children and their families: Lynn (Tim Mumby) Clubb of Belle Plaine, Bryon (Crystal Norris) Ewing of Riverton, Illinois, Carol Ewing of What Cheer, and Brad (Deb) Ewing of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren: Ami (Derrick) Westcott of Parnell, Iowa, Sarah (Mike) Russell of Cedar Rapids, Lucas (Ashton) Ewing of Des Moines, Madison (Spencer) Steinke of Gibson, Iowa, and Dawson (Marisa) Ewing of Oskaloosa; and ten great-grandchildren.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harry Ewing, who was killed in the Korean War.
As was his wish, Henry’s body has been cremated, and there will be a private family interment of ashes at Garrett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter. Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with Henry’s final arrangements.
