U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) applauded President Trump for delivering $5 million in federal disaster relief funding following severe weather and heavy rainfall that impacted Iowa between July 1 and July 4.
Ernst joined U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and the entire Iowa delegation in urging the administration to expedite disaster assistance for Iowa communities affected by the storms, which caused significant damage to public infrastructure and private property.
“I am grateful for President Trump’s steadfast support and leadership in quickly answering our call for expedited disaster relief following the devastating storms that struck communities across Iowa,” said Ernst. “This critical funding will be a lifeline for Iowans working to rebuild their homes and vital infrastructure. I will continue fighting to ensure our communities have the resources they need to recover and come back stronger.”
In addition to requesting statewide hazard mitigation assistance, Governor Reynolds requested funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Public Assistance Program to help repair damaged public infrastructure and facilities, as well as reimburse eligible emergency response and debris removal costs.
The FEMA Public Assistance request includes the following counties:
- Jasper County
- Polk County
- Story County
- Warren County
