Cedar Rapids Issues Boil Advisory

The City of Cedar Rapids has issued a precautionary boil advisory for residents near the 600 to 800 blocks of 36th Street NE.

The advisory affects addresses surrounding the 800 block of 36th Street NE, as well as 3600 E Avenue NE.

City officials say a water main rupture allowed dirt and gravel to enter the water main, creating the potential for bacterial contamination.

Residents in the affected area are advised to boil water used for drinking and other consumption. Water should be brought to a rapid boil for at least one minute and allowed to cool completely before use.

Water in all other areas of Cedar Rapids remains safe to consume.

Crews are working to repair the water main. The affected area will be repaired and flushed, followed by water testing. Chlorine levels will also be monitored, and two consecutive sets of bacteria samples will be collected for analysis.

The city expects to provide its next update by noon Friday, September 11. At that time, the advisory will either be lifted or extended.

Residents can check the City of Cedar Rapids website for the latest information or contact the Water Division at 319-286-5900.
