The Pella Police Department has announced Officer Calvin Wilner as its new School Resource Officer beginning with the 2026-27 school year.
Wilner will serve Pella Community Schools and Pella Christian Schools, providing a consistent law enforcement presence while focusing on student and staff safety, relationship-building and community support.
Wilner graduated from Central College in 2024 and joined the Pella Police Department in May of that year. Since then, he has served the community in several capacities and has developed a reputation for building positive relationships with residents.
As SRO, Wilner will work closely with students, families, teachers and school administrators. His responsibilities will include addressing safety concerns, providing law enforcement expertise when needed and serving as a resource for the school community.
The Pella Police Department says having a full-time SRO in the schools will allow Wilner to develop meaningful relationships with students and staff while gaining a better understanding of the school community.
The department says the SRO program reflects its commitment to community policing and the belief that strong relationships between law enforcement and schools help create a safe and supportive learning environment.
The announcement was made by the Pella Police Department on its Facebook page. The department has previously described the SRO position as a role focused on connecting with students and staff and strengthening relationships between young people and law enforcement.
