Iowa Congressman Zach Nunn says the U.S. is in a “high stakes” artificial intelligence race with China.
“We have a China that’s more unhinged, more dangerous and more directed in a strategic competition that they intend to win against the United States than ever before,” Nunn said.
During an appearance at a forum in Des Moines organized by the America First Policy Institute, Nunn said China has been stealing intellectual property from U.S. companies for decades and now it’s shipping oil out of Iran in what Nunn calls a “ghost fleet.” He credited President Trump for taking action to address China’s activities. “Republicans and Democrats in the past have always talked a big game about China,” Nunn said, “very few have actually had the wherewithal to hold China accountable.”
Nunn, a Republican from Ankeny, is a member of the U.S. House Select Committee on Communist China. He said the panel is playing a key role in the congressional response to China’s aggression. “This is our best pathway to build a strategic response to China’s ‘death by a thousand cuts,’” Nunn said.
