The Bruce L. Rastetter 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair has been a popular attraction for fairgoers this year.

Iowa 4-H Foundation executive director Emily Saveraid says the facility is packed with thousands of high-quality projects.

“It’s really the best of the best of what young people have been working on,” she said. “They are selected to come at the county fair level and then everything is on display here. Everything from photographs to canned goods to motorcycles to welding projects to Legos and art.”

She tells Brownfield it’s also helped provide shelter from recent rains.

“We’re trying to stay dry,” Saveraid said. “The 4-H building is a popular place when it rains, or even when it’s hot. We’ve got really good air conditioning and lots of things to see. We invite folks as they are looking for a dry place, to come and see us in the 4-H building.”

Saveraid says the exhibit also highlights tractors and other pieces of farm equipment restored by 4-H members from across the state.

The 4-H Exhibits Building covers 41,000 square feet of exhibit space and is located in the southwest corner of the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
