A southeast Iowa man is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly knocking two people unconscious during an altercation at a Sigourney residence late Wednesday night.
Dylan Cavin, 27, of Montezuma has been charged with Assault Causing Serious Injury, a Class D Felony. The alleged incident occurred at approximately 11:46 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12th.
According to court documents, Cavin entered the victim’s home to assist with moving a friend out of the residence when the altercation began. A witness stated that Cavin shoved the victim and struck her in the head and face with a closed fist, causing her to fall to the ground unconscious. Cavin then allegedly struck a male at the scene, knocking him unconscious as well. The victim was bleeding from the nose and face area and was transported to the hospital for treatment. She sustained a broken nose and was having difficulty breathing.
The victim said she did not remember being struck with a fist but does remember being shoved before falling to the ground. Cavin, when located a short time after the incident, said he was defending himself because the victim had grabbed his beard. He admitted to shoving the victim to the ground and to striking the male in the head, according to court documents.
Cavin was arrested and transported to the Keokuk County Jail. He is being held on a $5,000 cash-only bond and has waived his preliminary hearing. A no contact order has been requested in the case. A letter requesting a bond reduction was filed with the judge on Monday, August 17th.
