Motorists traveling across central and southern Iowa early Monday morning should be prepared for areas of patchy fog that may significantly reduce visibility.
The National Weather Service says patchy fog is expected to continue through 8:00 a.m. Monday, with visibility dropping to around one mile or less in some locations.
The fog is expected to affect areas mainly south of U.S. Highway 20 and along and east of Interstate 35.
Counties included in the advisory are Hardin, Grundy, Story, Marshall, Tama, Polk, Jasper, Poweshiek, Warren, Marion, Mahaska, Clarke, Lucas, Monroe, Wapello, Decatur, Wayne, Appanoose, and Davis.
Communities that may experience reduced visibility include Iowa Falls, Eldora, Ackley, Grundy Center, Reinbeck, Conrad, Dike, Wellsburg, Ames, Marshalltown, Tama, Toledo, Traer, Dysart, Gladbrook, Des Moines, Newton, Grinnell, Indianola, Norwalk, Carlisle, Pella, Knoxville, Oskaloosa, Osceola, Chariton, Albia, Ottumwa, Lamoni, Leon, Corydon, Seymour, Allerton, Humeston, Centerville, and Bloomfield.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use low-beam headlights when traveling through fog. Visibility can change quickly, especially in low-lying areas and near rivers or fields, so motorists should remain alert throughout the morning commute.
