Maharishi International University Athletics has hired Lawrence Eyre as their Assistant Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach, adding a coach with more than three decades of experience to the Pioneer Tennis program, according to an announcement and article from MIU Athletics.
Eyre is a Yale University graduate and a 30-year USPTA Elite Professional whose coaching career spans collegiate athletics, high school tennis, professional instruction, and officiating. At the collegiate level, he has served as an Assistant Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at Grinnell College and Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at Knox College. He also has experience as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association umpire, having officiated matches in both the Big Ten and Big 12 conferences.
Among his career highlights, Eyre was named National High School Coach of the Year during his time at Maharishi School in Fairfield — a recognition of his impact on student-athletes and his ability to build competitive programs.
Eyre said he is excited about the unique approach MIU brings to athletics. “Maharishi Pioneers invest in rest for tennis success,” he said. “Twice daily TM builds a physiological foundation for peak performance. When athletes live in the Zone, they play in the Zone.”
As assistant coach, Eyre will support daily training and player development for both the men’s and women’s tennis programs as MIU continues building its athletics department ahead of its first season of USCAA competition. Eyre currently serves as the head coach of the Fairfield High School boys tennis team, which competes in the spring — a schedule that does not conflict with MIU’s fall season, meaning he will be able to maintain both positions simultaneously.
