Families from across Iowa are invited to celebrate kindness, community and learning during Iowa PBS’s annual Be My Neighbor Day on Sunday, September 20, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Iowa PBS studios in Johnston.
Inspired by the popular children’s series Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, the free event will feature activities designed to bring neighbors together while encouraging kindness and community involvement.
Children will have the chance to meet fan-favorite characters Daniel Tiger and Miss Elaina, participate in hands-on STEAM activities with the Iowa PBS Education team, and enjoy a free snack from the Cups of Kindness snack truck.
Visitors can also explore interactive booths hosted by local nonprofits and essential service providers, offering fun and educational experiences for families. One of the day’s biggest attractions will be rides on the iconic red trolley inspired by Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. Guests can also paint kindness rocks and write encouraging letters at a community letter-writing station.
As part of the celebration, Iowa PBS is partnering with the Food Bank of Iowa and encourages attendees to bring a nonperishable food item to help support neighbors in need.
