Des Moines will be filled with music, dancing and holiday entertainment this December as a variety of performers take the stage throughout the month.
The festivities begin Thursday, December 3, with Barefoot Becky & the Ivanhoe Dutchmen performing from 6 to 9 p.m. The Mount Vernon, Iowa, group will bring polkas and plenty of German-inspired fun to the celebration.
The entertainment continues December 4–6, with performances ranging from the Festival Brass Quintet and Heartland Youth Choir to Irish dancers, Bavarian dancers and traditional European dance music. Malek’s Fishermen Band will close out Saturday, December 5, with polkas, waltzes, schottisches and other dance favorites.
Sunday, December 6, will feature the Mackenzie Highlanders Pipes and Drums of Iowa, Schuhplattler Gruppe Edelweiss, the Wagner Summer Theater Youth Vocal Group, Top Hat Carolers and the Metro Brass Quintet.
The holiday entertainment continues the following weekend. On December 10, Stu Ryan O’Brien will bring Irish pub music to the celebration. December 11 features Eddie Korosa Jr. & The Boys & Girls from Illinois, the Top Hat Carolers and the Polka Police.
The final weekend, December 12–13, will include performances by the Heartland Youth Choir, Foy School of Irish Dance, Mississippi Valley Dutchmen, Betrunken Verstört, Wagner Summer Theater Youth Vocal Group and Stu Ryan O’Brien.
With polka, Irish music, Bavarian dancing, brass, Christmas carols and youth performers, the December lineup offers something for just about everyone—and plenty of opportunities to get into the holiday spirit.
