Eastern Iowa Man Dies While Eluding County Deputies Saturday Night

An eastern Iowa man died Saturday night in a single-vehicle crash in Linn County after failing to stop at a stop sign while actively eluding law enforcement, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:17 p.m. on August 8th at the intersection of Wright Brothers Boulevard and Lefebure Road in Linn County, approximately seven miles southwest of Cedar Rapids. According to the report, a 2020 Ford F-150 driven by Robert Oppenheimer, 34, of Olin was traveling southbound on Lefebure Road while actively eluding Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies when he failed to stop at the stop sign at Wright Brothers Boulevard and left the roadway. Oppenheimer was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Oppenheimer was transported by area ambulance and was pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Assisting agencies included the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfax Fire Department, area ambulance, and Lifeguard air medical service.
