Weather challenges across the world are bringing global grain supplies into question.
EarthDaily global crop intelligence lead Nick Ohrtman says Europe has struggled with drought.
“The European crop has been, it’s more or less toward the end for a lot of it. But the last part of it really burned up, and they really found themselves heading to an early harvest on a lot of that crop. So definitely the French corn has been really poor.”
He tells Brownfield European countries might turn to the U.S. because of the shortfall.
Ohrtman is also watching South America as Brazil and Argentina wrap up corn harvest and look to begin soybean planting within the next month.
“These type of El Nino seasons can around Christmas time really start to dry out down in the southern parts of Brazil and into Argentina. So we’re keeping our eyes looking forward to that and make sure we pay attention to what changes may come there.”
Recent heat and dryness are also causing concerns for Chinese corn.
