History enthusiasts and those interested in the American Civil War are invited to attend the next Civil War Roundtable meeting on Thursday, August 20, in Ottumwa.
The group will meet in the Fox & Sax Room inside Hotel Ottumwa. The evening begins with a self-pay dinner at 6 p.m., giving attendees a chance to enjoy a meal and visit with fellow history enthusiasts. The free program begins at 6:45 p.m. and is open to the public.
This month’s presentation, “The Story of Herman Heath,” will explore Heath’s connection to the 1st and 7th Cavalry and his government career, which ultimately ended in scandal.
The presentation will be given by Dr. Don Elder, a historian, author and editor who has taught at Eastern New Mexico University since 1995.
Whether you’re a longtime Civil War enthusiast or simply interested in learning more about American history, everyone is welcome to attend.
