The Wapello County Farm Bureau and the Eldon Public Library will host a free educational event called Seeds to Sprouts on Monday, July 13th, giving children and families the opportunity to learn about gardening and plant growth, according to a press release from the Wapello County Farm Bureau.
The event will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the library’s side building and is open to children and families of all experience levels. No prior gardening knowledge is necessary.
Wapello County Farm Bureau Outreach Coordinator Hailey Shultz will lead the program, focusing on seed germination, plant development, and the importance of gardening in both agriculture and everyday life. Participants will learn what seeds need to grow and explore the stages plants go through as they develop.
Children will also take part in a hands-on activity by creating their own beanie baby plant project, which will allow them to observe seed germination firsthand. “The activity provides a simple and fun way for young people to see the plant growing process up close,” Shultz said. “It gives them an opportunity to continue learning at home as they watch their seeds germinate and grow.” Each participant will take their project home to continue observing the changes over the following days and weeks.
