An 18-year-old Ottumwa man is facing a domestic abuse assault charge following an incident at a local hotel.

According to court records, officers with the Ottumwa Police Department were dispatched to the Best Western, located at 2813 N. Court Street, at approximately 4:50 a.m. on July 5 in response to a reported domestic assault.

The criminal complaint alleges that 18-year-old Riky Joseph of Ottumwa caused bodily injury to the victim by throwing his cell phone at her during the incident.

Court documents state the victim suffered a small laceration and redness to her left ear as a result of Joseph’s actions. Records also indicate the victim is Joseph’s mother.
