An extension forage specialist says lower quality hay is being produced this year in Missouri due to excessive rains, but forage testing and nutrient management can help cattle producers protect returns.

Rusty Lee with University of Missouri Extension tells Brownfield “With late June, early July hay, we really want to be concerned about quality. We know that quality is a little reduced. We want to forage test as we go to feed this, but the expectation is we’re now looking at maintenance ration hay. We’re looking at dry cow hay.”
