Student-athletes in Jefferson and Van Buren counties have opportunities to complete their required sports physicals for free ahead of the upcoming school year, with events scheduled at both Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield and Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Jefferson County — JCHC Free Sports Physical Night

Jefferson County Health Center will host a one-night-only free sports physical event on Tuesday, July 21st at the JCHC Professional Clinic, located at the McCreery Cancer Center entrance. No appointments are needed — walk-ins are welcome.

The event is divided by last name. Students with last names A through K should arrive between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m., while students with last names L through Z should arrive between 7:00 and 8:30 p.m.

Families are also encouraged to bring a donation for JCHC’s School Supply Drive supporting SIEDA’s Annual School Supply Distribution. Suggested items include backpacks, pencils, pens, composition notebooks, loose leaf paper, colored pencils, crayons, glue sticks, folders, scissors, Expo markers, highlighters, pencil cases, spiral notebooks, rulers, and watercolors.

Those with questions can call JCHC at 641-472-4111.

Van Buren County — Van Buren County Hospital Free Sports Physicals

Van Buren County Hospital is offering free sports physicals for Van Buren County Community School athletes in grades seven through twelve at the Community Services Building in Keosauqua on two dates.

The first session is Friday, July 24th from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The second session is Friday, July 31st, with morning hours from 9:00 a.m. to noon and afternoon hours from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Appointments are recommended but walk-ins are welcome, though walk-in patients may experience a longer wait. To schedule an appointment, call 319-293-8732.

Parents who will not be present for their student’s physical must ensure all forms — including the Parent Consent Form — are completed and signed before the student can be seen. Forms are available through Van Buren County Community Schools and all VBCH clinics. Students whose parents or guardians will not be attending must have the Authorization for 2026-2027 Sports Physical Form filled out in advance.
