Frederick William Meyer Jr., 73, of Agency died at 9:18 p.m. July 20, 2026 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born November 17, 1952 in Wapello County to Frederick and Grace Denning Meyer Sr. Fred married Suzette “Sue” Swope June 24, 1977, they had just celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.
A 1972 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Fred earned a degree in robotics and machine operation. He worked 10 years at Creative Edge Master Shop in Fairfield and Clow Valve in Oskaloosa. Fred had also owned and managed his own rental properties.
He was a member of the Iowa Golden Gloves, Boot Scooters and Eagles Aerie #114. Fred loved to ride his Harley. He had fought kidney disease for over 50 years and made medical history having lived 34 years with a kidney transplant.
Surviving is his wife, Sue; his siblings, Mary Ann O’Leary, David (Marlene) Meyer and Diane (Kevin) Kaller all of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Michael O’Leary.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday July 24th at Reece Funeral Home with Father Joseph Sia officiating. His family will be present to greet friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
