The Fairfield Police Department located a community member in crisis Sunday morning after an approximately 70-minute search, according to a press release from the department.
At approximately 9:27 a.m. on Sunday, July 19th, officers responded to a report of a community member experiencing a mental health crisis. Officers were advised that the individual had made suicidal statements, sustained potentially life-threatening self-inflicted injuries, and had left their residence in a vehicle headed to an unknown location.
Officers from the Fairfield Police Department, assisted by deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, immediately coordinated a systematic search of the area. After approximately one hour and ten minutes, a Fairfield Police Department officer located the vehicle parked at a local business with the individual still inside. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the individual to receive medical treatment and care.
Out of respect for the individual’s privacy and their family, no additional identifying information will be released.
The department noted that mental health crises are emergencies and encouraged anyone who may be struggling — or who knows someone in crisis — to reach out for help. Anyone experiencing thoughts of suicide or emotional distress can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. If there is an immediate danger to life, call 911.
