Alan Laverne Simmons, 71, of Ottumwa, died at 5:27 p.m. July 9, 2026 at home surrounded by his family and loved ones.
He was born February 20, 1955 in Ottumwa to Robert Eugene and Darlene Faye Scott Simmons.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Alan had been a resident of Ottumwa all of his life. He worked his whole life in construction retiring in 2020.
Alan loved to play pool and hang out with friends at The Keg. He also liked hanging out down at the river. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley and loved animals. Alan was an all around outdoorsman and a mentor to many.
Surviving are his children, Wesley Alan Simmons, Cassandra Lynn Rork, Sasha Dawn (Javier) Rivera and Virgil Robert Alan Simmons all of Ottumwa; 6 grandchildren, Nolan Ryan Rork, Jaxon Alan Rork, Xavier Alexander Rivera, Brooklynn Lee Simmons Lippincott, Zaiden Alan Rivera and CashLynn Dawn Rork; and a sister, Sheila Louise Simmons of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Eugene Simmons and many family members and friends.
Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July, 14th, at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Cremation will follow the visitation. Please wear your favorite camouflage or Harley Davidson shirt.
