Thing Nguyen, 66, of Bondurant, Iowa, passed away on July 9, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family.
Thing Nguyen, daughter of Cock Van Quang and Maou Thi Ca, was born on January 6, 1960, in Vientiane, Laos. As a young girl, Thing attended school in Laos, and in 1975, she and her family moved to the United States, settling in Iowa. Thing was 15 years old when her family moved, and she attended Oskaloosa High School, graduating with the class of 1979. While in high school, Thing also attended night classes where she learned to speak English. It was during those night classes that she met her soon-to-be husband, Nhuong Nguyen. Thing and Nhuong were married on June 10, 1978, in Oskaloosa.
After her education, Thing worked for a short time before she and Nhuong decided that it would be best for her to stay at home and raise the children. Thing and Nhuong were blessed with two children, a daughter, Diana, and a son, David.
When the children reached school age, Thing began a job at the overall factory. She worked there from 1985 – 1995, until she began her career at Pella Corp. Thing worked at Pella Corp until her retirement in 2017. Thing and Nhuong moved to Florida for a few years before eventually returning to Iowa. They loved the time spent in Florida and all the friends they made.
Thing enjoyed many aspects of life, but one of her favorites was flower gardening. Her true love was being in the company of her family and friends. She loves her grandchildren with all her heart.
Thing’s family includes her husband, Nhuong; her daughter, Diana Nguyen of Bondurant; and her son, David Nguyen of Oskaloosa; her grandchildren: Kaleb Nguyen, Carter Nguyen, Kolden Nguyen, and Quinley Janssen; her brothers: Sing Cavan of North Liberty, Iowa; Vieng (Pom) Quang of Oskaloosa; Chris (La) Quang of Florida; Phing Quang of Oskaloosa; Khom Quang of Oskaloosa; and La Quang of Oskaloosa; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Thing was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Pom Rassasombath.
Funeral services for Thing will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. The family will be present from 12:00 p.m. to service time on Saturday to greet friends and relatives. Private family burial will take place at Old White Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
