George Glenn Schweitzer, 86, of rural Hedrick, died at 8:49 p.m. July 9, 2026 at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.
He was born August 2, 1939 in Ottumwa to Harold Earl and Dorothy Margaret Dickens Schweitzer. Glenn married Judy Kay McDonald on September 10, 1966.
A 1957 graduate of Hedrick High School, Glenn attended Iowa Wesleyan and graduated from AIB. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army as Specialist E5 in the chemical corps. Farming all of his life, he farmed his family’s Heritage farm for over 60 years.
Glenn had been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hedrick and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa. He was a DeKalb seed corn dealer and served on 4-H committees and participated in related activities. Glenn served on the Pekin School Board, Keokuk Farm Services Board and Fremont Funeral Chapel Board. He was a member of Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs Post #83 American Legion and Heartland Boot Scooters. Glenn always enjoyed camping at the Iowa State Fair.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Judy; their children; Julie (Kris) Stufflebeam of Macomb, IL and Chad (Nikki) Schweitzer of Hiawatha, IA; 6 grandchildren, Avery, Riley and Charlie Schweitzer, Grace, Sarah and Stephen Stufflebeam; sisters, Judith (Melvin) Whitmore of Fairfield, and Nancy Lee of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Janice Bailey; three brothers, Harold Wayne Schweitzer and infant twins, Lloyd Dean and Floyd Gene.
Visitation is open at 10 a.m. Wednesday July, 15th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16th at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Clark officiating.
Burial will be in Deuser Cemetery with military honors conducted by Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs Post #83 American Legion.
