The USDA says crop conditions mostly held steady in Iowa last week.

Monday’s Crop Progress report says 80% of Iowa corn is in good to excellent condition, unchanged on the week, and soybeans are rated 78%, down one percentage point.

Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig tells Brownfield crop conditions have been very favorable across the state. But he says there have been a few areas dealing with some flood damage.

“The challenge has been on some bottom ground,” he said. “It’s really along streams, the South Skunk in particular, so I wouldn’t say it’s widespread. It really is focused on those floodplains.”

USDA says 87% of the state’s corn crop is silking and 28% is now in the dough stage. Eighty percent soybeans are blooming with 48% setting pods.

Pasture and range conditions in Iowa are rated 65% good to excellent, down from 67% the previous week.
