Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to one of the more unusual calls in recent memory after a kangaroo was spotted wandering loose in the area, according to a social media post from the department on Friday, June 5th.

Deputies Hennigar and Crenshaw were dispatched to assist with the situation. After some effort, the kangaroo was successfully located and reunited with its owner, ending what the sheriff’s office described as an otherwise memorable day on the job.

The department noted in its announcement that no deputies were injured during the response, no citations were issued, and the kangaroo was released on its own recognizance.

“It’s not every day we add ‘kangaroo wrangler’ to the job description,” the sheriff’s office wrote, “but we’re glad this story had a happy ending.” The department also thanked community members who shared information and kept an eye out during the search.
