An Ottumwa woman is facing charges after allegedly stealing merchandise from a local convenience store.
According to a criminal complaint, officers with the Ottumwa Police Department investigated a theft reported around 12:50 p.m. on May 30 at the Yes Way store on West Second Street.
Authorities allege that 41-year-old Lacey Mills entered the store and took a pair of sunglasses, ChapStick, bubble gum, and a fountain drink without paying. Store employees reportedly witnessed Mills consuming the fountain drink while inside the business before leaving with the items.
Court documents state that officers located Mills about a block from the store, where some of the stolen items were allegedly found in her possession.
The total value of the merchandise was reported at $24.77.
Mills was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail. She was later released after posting a $2,000 cash or surety bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 9.
Mills is charged with Third-Degree Theft, an aggravated misdemeanor.
