An attempt to serve an arrest warrant at an Ottumwa residence resulted in additional charges after officers reported a struggle during the arrest.
On June 27 at approximately 1:58 a.m., the Ottumwa Police Department served an arrest warrant on Jeremy Jones, 46, of Ottumwa.
According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to a report of a suspicious person at a residence on East Highland Drive in Ottumwa.
Court documents state that Jones was advised he was being detained but began pulling away from fully uniformed officers. The complaint further alleges that when officers instructed Jones to place his hands behind his back, he stiffened his arms, preventing officers from placing him in handcuffs. His actions allegedly interfered with law enforcement officers as they attempted to perform a lawful duty.
Jones was transported to the Wapello County Jail, where he is being held on a $1,000 cash or surety bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 7.
Jones is charged with voluntary absence from custody, a serious misdemeanor.
