A domestic disturbance involving allegations of threats with a firearm and the discharge of a weapon inside a residence has resulted in multiple criminal charges.
Ottumwa Police responded to the 300 block of Grandview Avenue shortly after 12:30 a.m. on June 5 following a report involving the reckless use of a firearm.
According to court records, 24-year-old Richard Elliott of Ottumwa allegedly pointed a loaded firearm at a woman and threatened to kill her.
Court documents further state that Elliott intentionally and recklessly discharged the firearm inside the residence, causing property damage.
Elliott was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail. He was later released after posting a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
A no-contact order was issued on June 5. A preliminary hearing in the case was held on June 9.
Elliott is charged with First-Degree Harassment, Reckless Use of a Firearm, Domestic Abuse Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, and Display or Use of a Weapon, First Offense. All charges are aggravated misdemeanors.
