An Ottumwa man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges following a domestic assault investigation earlier this month.

On June 4 at approximately 3:35 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department responded to a report of a domestic assault.

According to a criminal complaint, the victim told officers that she and 51-year-old Mickel Davidson of Ottumwa are live-in boyfriend and girlfriend.

Court documents state that the victim reported Davidson became upset with her and struck her in the face. Responding officers observed redness and swelling around the victim’s right eye.

According to court records, officers stopped Davidson as he stepped off an elevator and detained him in connection with the reported domestic incident.

Law enforcement reports indicate officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Davidson and observed that his eyes were bloodshot and watery. Davidson admitted to officers that he had been drinking earlier in the day.

Davidson was offered a preliminary breath test (PBT), which he refused.

He was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $5,000 cash/surety bond.

A no-contact order was issued on June 5.

Davidson is charged with Public Intoxication, a simple misdemeanor, and Domestic Abuse Assault – Third or Subsequent Offense, a Class D felony.
