An Ottumwa man faces a felony charge after allegedly attacking another man and stealing his possessions.

Michael Songeni, 33, was charged with first-degree burglary, a Class B felony.

On June 7th at 4:30 PM, court records say Songeni armed himself with a “large, blunt object” and struck another man in the head, knocking him to the ground at a park on Mill Street in Ottumwa. Songeni then allegedly approached the victim and kicked him while he was on the ground.

According to police, Songeni took items belonging to the victim and fled the area. Court documents reveal Songeni was later found by officers with the victim’s items still in his possession.

Songeni was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail and is being held on a $25,000 cash only bond.

Songeni has a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 18th. He’s been ordered not to have any contact with the victim.
