Congressman Zach Nunn and U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will visit two major transportation projects in the Des Moines metro on Thursday, June 18, highlighting federal investments aimed at improving air travel and public transit across central Iowa.
The first stop will take place at Des Moines International Airport, where Nunn and Duffy will tour the new terminal currently under construction. While the terminal walk-through will be closed to the press, pooled b-roll footage will be made available to media outlets. Following the tour, the pair will hold a media availability outside the construction area.
Officials say the airport visit will focus on a $26 million investment tied to the Working Families Tax Cut, also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill, which will be used to modernize the airport’s air traffic control system and support improvements at one of Iowa’s busiest transportation hubs.
The second stop will be at the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority’s new Operations and Maintenance Facility. During the visit, Nunn and Duffy will tour the facility before speaking with reporters. The tour will be open to the press, with b-roll footage permitted.
The DART facility was made possible through a $20 million federal investment from the Federal Transit Administration’s Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program. Funding supports expanded bus storage, training areas, office space, and upgraded maintenance infrastructure, including a modern bus wash, fueling station, and body shop.
The visit comes just days after DART launched a redesigned bus network on June 14. Transit officials say the changes are expected to improve service while reducing operating costs and helping accommodate more than 12,000 passenger trips on a typical weekday throughout central Iowa.
Joining Nunn and Duffy during the visits will be Des Moines Airport Authority CEO Brian Mulcahy and DART CEO Erin Hockman.
