The City of Libertyville has a vacancy on its city council following the resignation of Cody Guffey, who had been elected to the position, according to a notice of intent to fill the vacancy by appointment.
The city council intends to fill the vacancy by appointment at its next regular meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, July 14th, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. at Libertyville City Hall.
Eligible electors of the City of Libertyville who wish to be considered for the appointment must submit a written request to the city clerk’s office by 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13th, 2026.
However, residents do have the right to require that the vacancy be filled by special election instead. To do so, a valid petition must be filed with the city clerk within fourteen days of the publication of this notice or within fourteen days of the appointment being made. If no such petition is filed, the appointment will serve for the period until the next pending election as defined by Iowa law.
