The Des Moines Symphony’s annual Yankee Doodle Pops celebration is returning to the Iowa State Capitol grounds this summer, and Iowans across the state will once again be able to enjoy the event from home through a live broadcast on Iowa PBS.

The popular patriotic concert will air live on Thursday, July 3, at 8:30 p.m., with an encore presentation scheduled for Friday, July 4, at 9 p.m.

Now in its 32nd year, Yankee Doodle Pops will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a lineup of special guests and performances. Featured artists include veteran television journalist Harry Smith, hip-hop performer Billy “B.Well” Weathers, folk duo Weary Ramblers, and the Des Moines Choral Society.

The Des Moines Symphony will also perform several patriotic favorites that have become staples of the annual event, including the “1812 Overture” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

Iowa PBS has partnered with the Des Moines Symphony since 2021 to bring the celebration to viewers statewide, allowing more Iowans to take part in the Independence Day tradition.

In addition to the television broadcast, viewers can stream Iowa PBS programming live online and through the PBS app. More information about the concert and viewing options is available at Iowa PBS.
