A late-night dispute outside a local apartment complex led to criminal charges after a woman reported being assaulted during an argument.
The Centerville Police Department responded to a reported domestic assault in the 500 block of West Jackson Street at approximately 1:28 a.m. on May 31.
According to a criminal complaint, officers arrived to find 36-year-old Alejandro Gonzalez of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the victim standing in the street and yelling at one another.
Court documents state the victim had left a bar and walked home after becoming upset with Gonzalez. The victim told officers that Gonzalez followed her to her apartment.
According to the complaint, the victim had locked the apartment door when she arrived home. Gonzalez allegedly began pounding on the door and demanding that she let him inside.
The victim told officers that when she opened the door, Gonzalez punched her on the right side of her face. She said she then pushed him out of the apartment, closed the door, and locked it.
Law enforcement officers reported detecting the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Gonzalez while speaking with him at the scene.
Gonzalez was arrested and transported to the Appanoose County Jail. He was later released from custody.
A no-contact order was issued on May 31. Court records indicate Gonzalez waived his preliminary hearing.
Gonzalez is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury or Mental Illness, First Offense, a serious misdemeanor, and Public Intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.
