The president of Iowa Farm Bureau is hopeful Congress can maintain momentum on a new farm bill.
Brent Johnson tells Brownfield passage in the House and draft language from the Senate Ag Committee signal continued progress.
“Hope to be successful, we’re certainly leaning that way. But ready to get to work, let’s get this done in both chambers. Get the farm bill finished so that we can put it on the President’s desk so he can sign it.”
He suggests lawmakers have dragged their feet long enough.
“The last time we passed a farm bill was 2018, and we are long overdue for a farm bill that takes care of farmers. Specifically in challenging economic times, as we’re in right now.”
One of Iowa Farm Bureau’s priorities for the farm bill, language addressing California’s Proposition 12, was not included in the Senate draft.
