A child abuse investigation in Carlisle has resulted in felony charges against two local women accused of causing injuries to a 5-year-old child.

According to court documents, Darian Rae Lehman, 27, and Linnea Marie Franklin, 28, have each been charged with Child Endangerment Resulting in Bodily Injury, a Class D felony.

The investigation began after the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services alerted the Carlisle Police Department to allegations involving a young child. Authorities say the child was residing with both women at a home in the 300 block of Ash Street.

Investigators reported observing multiple bruises on the child and documented injuries to several areas of the body. Court records state the child identified both Lehman and Franklin as being responsible for the injuries. The reported injuries included bruising on the child’s back, chest, forehead, and ear, along with a bump on the back of the head.

Authorities allege the defendants’ actions endangered the child’s physical and emotional well-being and resulted in bodily injury.

The charges were filed in Warren County District Court on June 1. Both women have posted bond while awaiting further court proceedings.

Franklin is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 15, while Lehman is expected to appear in court on June 17.
