Ron Elwood Schooley, 75, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on June 9, 2026 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born on April 11, 1951 in Grinnell, Iowa to Arthur William and Viola Carmen Wyss Schooley. He graduated from Washington High School in Washington, Iowa in 1969. He was a talented multi-sport athlete in school but his favorite sport was football. As quarterback, Ron led the Demons to their first ever 9-0 season. After high school, he attended Indian Hills Community College where he played quarterback for the Falcons before transferring to the University of Northern Iowa to continue his football career. Following his college career, a semi pro team from Iowa called the Cedar Rapid Raiders gave Ron another couple years to play his favorite game. Later, Ron took to fast pitch softball, playing alongside his brothers for the Drakesville Mohawks which created many wonderful and lasting memories for the boys.
In 1975, Ron joined the family in Bloomfield to help run the Bloomfield Livestock Market. He would soon find the love of his life, Ramona Reyes, and the couple were married on April 16, 1977 in Eldon, Iowa, in a beautiful Catholic ceremony. Ron and Ramona were blessed with two sons; Roman in 1978, and Tyler in 1980. Ron worked at the sale barn and attended auctioneer school. He would later join in the ownership of the Bloomfield Livestock Market with his brothers where they all operated together for many years. Ron would eventually become sole owner of the business, running it for many years before his retirement in the Fall of 2023, when he handed off the business to his sons.
Ron was very active in helping with the 4-H livestock sale for many years and leading the efforts to help with the Governor’s Charity Steer Show to help fund the Ronald McDonald houses of Iowa.
Ron was a devoted Christian and an active member of Church of the Open Bible in Bloomfield. He served as Sunday School teacher, Elder, and worship leader for over 25 years. Ron was also a devoted husband and father – he truly cherished his time with family. A favorite activity for Ron was traveling to watch his two boys play baseball. Ron and Ramona loved to fellowship with folks and enjoy good beef. His life will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by two sons, Roman (Elizabeth) Schooley, Tyler (Kallie) Schooley both of Bloomfield; six grandchildren, Hannah (Cash) Tharp, Haven Schooley, Houstin Schooley, Anderson Schooley, Tytan Schooley, Quinnlee Schooley; great-grandson, Weaver Tharp; four brothers, Philip (Deborah) Schooley, Wayne (Laurie) Schooley, Bill (Danae) Schooley, David (Kathy) Schooley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two nephews, John Schooley, Jeremy Reyes; brother-in-law, Joe Reyes; great-nephew, Gabe Reyes; and his in-laws, Feliciano and Guadalupe Reyes.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at the Bloomfield Christian Church with Pastor Charles Courtney officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the family present to greet friends from 2-5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Church of the Open Bible, Davis County Dollars for Scholars, and the Davis County “A” Club.
