A juvenile female reported in critical condition following an accidental shooting south of Libertyville on Sunday, May 24th has since passed away, according to information released following the original report.
Jean-Grey Irvin, 7, of Libertyville, died on Monday, May 25th at the University of Iowa Hospital from injuries sustained in the unintentional gunshot wound. The daughter of Chris and Kayla Irvin, Jean-Grey was a second-grade student at Pence Elementary School in Fairfield, where she had recently been named the May Trojan Trait Superstar.
Her school recognized her with those words: “Jean comes to school ready to learn, always showing a positive attitude, and does her very best to reach her goals. She stays positive and perseveres, even when things are difficult. Jean shares her thoughts in class and respects others’ opinions. She uses kind words to help her classmates. She is a caring and thoughtful friend who helps make sure everyone feels included. Jean shows her Trojan Traits every day by being respectful, responsible, and safe at school. We are so proud of the leader she has become and love celebrating her growth and hard work. Congratulations, Jean! Keep shining and leading the way — you truly are a Trojan Superstar.”
A time to gather and remember Jean will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8th at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield. Friends may leave online condolences at cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
A GoFundMe has been established by Alexander Jackson to support the Irvin family with funeral expenses. As of Wednesday, June 3rd, the campaign had raised nearly $5,265 toward its $10,000 goal.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received the original 911 call at 7:56 p.m. on May 24th from the 2500 block of Douds Road. Deputies and medical personnel arrived on scene at 8:03 p.m. The incident remains under investigation. Assisting agencies included Jefferson County Ambulance, Libertyville Fire and Rescue, Iowa State Patrol, Fairfield Police Department, Medforce, and Jefferson County Dispatch.
