Wellman Veterans Memorial Nears Construction, Paver Sales Still Open

The City of Wellman is giving residents one more chance to take part in a new veterans and first responders memorial by purchasing personalized honor pavers, but officials say there’s a deadline coming up if people want them included in the dedication ceremony.

These pavers are meant to recognize and remember individuals who have served in the military or worked as first responders. Once installed, they will become part of the Freedom Plaza area at the upcoming memorial site, each one engraved with a name and service information chosen by the buyer.

City officials are asking that orders be turned in by April 30 if families want the paver ready in time for the formal dedication. Anything submitted after that date will still be accepted, but there’s no guarantee it will be completed in time for the July celebration.

The dedication ceremony is expected to be part of Wellman’s Fourth of July events this year, marking a major milestone for the project.

According to City Administrator Kelly Litwiller, the memorial is already moving closer to construction, which should begin in the coming weeks. The site will be located at 8th Avenue and Highway 22 and will honor veterans from all branches of the military along with local firefighters and other emergency responders.

The project carries an estimated price tag of $250,000. Funding is coming from a mix of city contributions, donations from the public, and the sale of the memorial pavers themselves.
