A federal case in Wapello County involved a man named Jack Lee Coleman who was investigated by law enforcement for very serious crimes involving children. Authorities learned that Coleman secretly placed a hidden camera in a private bathroom and recorded minors without their knowledge or permission. When investigators searched his home and electronic devices, they found illegal images involving multiple child victims. Because of how serious the situation was, the case was handled in federal court.

During the investigation, federal agents worked with other law enforcement agencies to collect evidence from computers and storage devices. They discovered that several children had been affected by the recordings. Cases like this are treated very seriously because they involve a major violation of privacy and the safety of children.

In court, Coleman pleaded guilty to federal charges related to producing illegal child exploitation material. After reviewing the evidence and the seriousness of the crimes, the judge sentenced him to about 30 years in federal prison, along with supervised release after his sentence. He was also required to register as a sex offender.

Editor’s Note: Based on court records, the investigation and illegal recordings occurred around 2016–2017, when authorities say the hidden camera activity was discovered and evidence was collected.

The case then moved through federal court, and sentencing happened in 2018, when Jack Lee Coleman received a long federal prison sentence.
