Ottumwa police responded to a public intoxication call Tuesday morning after a man was reportedly seen walking naked in a busy area of the city.

According to a criminal complaint, officers were dispatched around 9:57 a.m. on April 22 to the 400 block of East Main Street. The report states that 55-year-old Mark McPherson, of Ottumwa, was observed leaving his residence and walking toward the intersection of Jefferson and Main streets completely nude.

Court documents say McPherson was seen moving in and out of the roadway, yelling at passing drivers and pedestrians, and at times blocking traffic while walking through the area.

When officers made contact with him, authorities say McPherson admitted to using methamphetamine prior to the incident.

He was evaluated and cleared by medical personnel before being taken into custody. McPherson was then transported to the Wapello County Jail, where he is currently being held.

As of now, no bond has been set and a preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.

McPherson faces charges of public intoxication and public nudity, both classified as simple misdemeanors.
