Police responded to a reported disturbance involving an intoxicated individual following an alleged altercation in the downtown area.
On April 26 at approximately 1:26 a.m., the Oskaloosa Police Department responded to a report of a physical altercation in the 100 block of North D Street in Oskaloosa.
According to a criminal complaint, when officers arrived they located Ashleigh Williams, 29, of Oskaloosa, who was reportedly involved in the incident, walking along the sidewalk.
Court documents state that officers issued lawful commands for Williams to stop. She allegedly refused and continued walking. Officers then made physical contact and attempted to detain her, at which point she reportedly continued to resist.
The report indicates Williams was eventually placed in handcuffs but continued to ignore officers’ commands. Authorities noted she had come from Hot Shotz Bar and displayed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot watery eyes, impaired balance, and elevated emotions.
Officers later spoke with the bar’s owners, who stated Williams should have been cut off due to her level of intoxication but was allowed to remain since it was her birthday.
Williams was transported to the Mahaska County Jail and later released on a promise to appear. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 13.
She is charged with interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor, and public intoxication, also a simple misdemeanor.
