The Fairfield and Sigourney girls track and field teams competed Thursday, April 16th at the Ike Ryan Relays at EBF, with Fairfield finishing fourth and Sigourney sixth in a seven-team field.
Chariton won the team title with 105 points, followed by EBF with 100, Albia with 91, Fairfield with 82, Washington with 80, Sigourney with 54, and Clarke with 41.
Fairfield’s Elyse Setterstrom won the discus with a throw of 104-01. Sigourney won the sprint medley relay with Carmalita Cave, Bella de Oliveira, Kia Montgomery, and Brynn Clarahan in 2:02.15.
Lacey Taylor of EBF won the 100-meter dash in 13.20. Iris Lane of Fairfield placed second in 13.69 and Bella de Oliveira of Sigourney third in 13.84. Maddy Martin of Fairfield placed seventh in 14.74, Carmalita Cave of Sigourney eighth in 14.86, Ryelan Schnoebelen of Fairfield 12th in 15.31, Riley Cavin of Sigourney 18th in 16.34, Laney Bowers of Fairfield 20th in 17.48, and Cora Bernhardt of Sigourney 21st in 17.68.
In the 200-meter dash, Ava Krutsinger of Chariton won in 26.64. Lane placed second in 28.02, de Oliveira fourth in 29.14, Abyl McCulley of Sigourney seventh in 30.09, Lauren Martin of Fairfield 10th in 30.63, Kiley Cavin of Sigourney 16th in 34.18, Zehra Erdem of Fairfield 20th in 36.69, and Bowers 21st in 38.29.
Sam Lyons of Fairfield placed second in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.54 and Zehra Erdem 11th in 1:22.65 behind winner Mady Montgomery of Albia at 1:03.64.
Lacey Taylor swept the hurdle events, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 16.45 and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:10.24. Abby Davis of Sigourney placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.92. Amelia Phillips of Sigourney placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:22.35.
McKenna Montgomery of Albia won the 800-meter run in 2:24.59. Brynn Clarahan of Sigourney placed fourth in 2:42.17, Kensley Fligg of Fairfield eighth in 2:51.07, and Ella Bahlmann of Sigourney 12th in 3:12.77.
Emma Horak of Washington won the 1,500-meter run in 3:59.23. Addison Yates of Sigourney placed third in 4:01.28, Caroline Van Pelt of Fairfield fourth in 5:43.05, Alex Jo Steward of Fairfield fifth in 5:56.52, Bailey Belzer of Fairfield eighth in 6:20.29, Cloee Wilson of Sigourney 10th in 6:39.76, and Fatima Baez of Fairfield 14th in 7:18.60.
In the 3,000-meter run, McKenna Montgomery won in 10:21.01, with Ellie Yates of Sigourney placing second in 11:36.94 and Addison Yates of Sigourney third in 11:39.93.
The Fairfield 4×100 team of Maddy Martin, Allie Hammes, Iris Lane, and Sam Lyons placed second in 53.62 — a season-best time — behind winner Chariton at 51.76. The Sigourney 4×100 team of Carmalita Cave, Bella de Oliveira, Brynn Clarahan, and Kia Montgomery placed fourth in 54.19.
The Sigourney 4×200 group of Carmalita Cave, Kiley Cavin, Kinsley Clubb, and Abyl McCulley placed fifth in 2:06.13 behind winner Clarke at 1:56.86. The Sigourney 4×400 team of Kinsley Clubb, Abyl McCulley, Abby Davis, and Amelia Phillips placed seventh in 4:59.97 behind winner Albia at 4:32.83. The Fairfield 4×800 team of Caroline Van Pelt, Alex Jo Steward, Bailey Belzer, and Fatima Baez placed fifth in 11:58.81 behind winner Albia at 11:13.60. The Fairfield sprint medley team of Lauren Martin, Allie Hammes, Kensley Fligg, and Maddy Martin placed third in 2:03.29, just behind Sigourney’s winning time of 2:02.15. The Sigourney distance medley team of Emerie McCulley, Ashtyn Tish, Ella Bahlmann, and Cloee Wilson placed sixth in 5:51.96 behind winner Chariton at 4:24.18.
Kensley Fligg placed second in the long jump at 15-03.50 and Allie Hammes third at 14-11.25 behind winner Alana Elmore of Chariton at 16-00.50. Elyse Setterstrom placed second in the shot put at 31-03 behind winner Khelee Meyer of EBF at 31-05, with Nora McReynolds of Fairfield fourth at 28-03.25, Collyns O’Rourke of Sigourney seventh at 26-05, and Emerie McCulley of Sigourney 15th at 21-10.50. Behind Setterstrom’s winning discus throw for Fairfield, Ashtyn Tish of Sigourney placed 13th at 69-05, Emerie McCulley of Sigourney 15th at 66-09, McReynolds 17th at 61-04, Madison Clarahan of Sigourney 19th at 55-05, and Cora Bernhardt of Sigourney 23rd at 44-11.
Fairfield head coach Jerrod Belzer was pleased with how his team competed. “It was a great night for us,” Belzer said. “We had several PRs and a season-best time for our 4×100. Allie Hammes, Kensley Fligg, and Nora McReynolds all had good meets in the field events, all hitting PRs. Allie and Kensley ran really well too for us. In addition to our 4×100, Iris Lane had a huge night, running a big PR in the open 200, and Caroline Van Pelt and Bailey Belzer ran impressive personal bests in the 1,500.”
