The City of Sigourney has announced that routine street sweeping will begin Monday, March 30th, and continue every Monday thereafter.
To allow crews to complete the work safely and efficiently, all vehicles must be removed from the Sigourney square and within one block of the square beginning Sunday evening and remaining clear through Monday morning. The city’s notice to affected parties specifies that vehicles must be off the square from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. each Monday.
According to the city, written notices are being mailed to affected parties.
In a letter to business owners and residents, City Clerk Ashley Fry said the city will sweep the square every Monday and noted the parking restrictions are tied to Ordinance 3-3-28, which governs stopping, standing, and parking in specified places.
Under that ordinance, parking is prohibited in a number of locations throughout the city, including sidewalks, driveways, intersections, crosswalks, near fire hydrants, and other posted no-parking areas. The ordinance also specifically prohibits parking on certain streets during designated Monday morning cleaning hours and during snow events when accumulation reaches two inches or more.
The ordinance states that on Marion Street from Stuart Street to Shuffleton Street, Washington Street from Stuart Street to Shuffleton Street, Main Street from Elm Street to Spring Street, and Jefferson Street from Elm Street to Spring Street, parking is prohibited between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Mondays for street cleaning purposes.
City officials said the sweeping is part of routine maintenance and are encouraging those who park in and around the square to plan ahead each week to avoid conflicts with the street sweeping schedule.
