Richard Sampson, 68, of Ottumwa, died at 8:25 p.m., February 19, 2026 at his home.
He was born May 19, 1957 in Ottumwa to John David and Joyce Hicks Sampson. He married Mary Shields July 24, 1976.
A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, Rick was a 1975 graduate of Davis County High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He had worked as a cook at JB’s Restaurant and Servpro retiring in 2019.
He was an avid hunter and fisher, a collector of arrowheads and enjoyed playing softball. He loved spending time with his family.
Surviving is his wife, Mary; 2 children, Shane Sampson and Samantha Sampson, both of Ottumwa; 7 grandchildren, Akasha, Lorelai, Angeleen, Lamarion, Shakur, Rahsha, Samiah; a great grandchild, Gabriel; 3 brothers, John Sampson of Drakesville, Jim (Deb) Sampson of Blakesburg, Bob (Laura) Sampson of Drakesville; his mother, Joyce Sampson of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his father.
His body has been cremated, and no services are planned at this time.
