Glenys Arlene Downing Bolin, 84, of Ottumwa, died at 11:23 p.m. August 16, 2026 at Pella Regional Health Center.
She was born September 20, 1941 in Centerville to Harold and Mildred Hawk Fenton. She married William Gerald “Bill” Downing June 17, 1961 and he preceded her in death August 18, 1997. She married Doran Bolin November 17, 2001 and he joined her in death August 18, 2026.
Growing up in Unionville, Glenys was a 1959 graduate of Moravia High School. She lived at Lake Wapello for many years, moving to Ottumwa in 1998. After high school, she worked for Allied Insurance in Des Moines, Davis County Savings and Loan and for South Ottumwa Savings Bank.
Glenys was a member of Drakesville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed shopping, hosting family dinners while living at Lake Wapello, and visiting with anyone she could. Glenys also enjoyed exercising at Lady Fit.
Surviving are her sisters, Margaret Grogan of Livonia, MO, Marlys Ragan of Moravia and Sandy (Joe) Conn of Centerville; several nieces and nephews; step-children, Randy (Lisa) Bolin of Ankeny, Ronda (Aaron) Brown of Ottumwa, Lori (Rob) Mitchell of Packwood, Tonya (Dan) Gross of Des Moines and Kibben Whitham of Fairfield; and 5 step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Todd Downing; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Marlene Farnsworth; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Richard Hendricks; as well as brothers-in-law, Bill Ragen and Frankie Grogan.
Her body has been cremated. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. August 29th at Drakesville United Methodist Church.
