The trial for a 19-year-old Mt. Pleasant man facing multiple drug-related charges has been delayed.
Gavin King, who was arrested in September, is charged with two felony counts of controlled substance violations and two felony counts for failing to affix a drug tax stamp, all class D felonies. King entered a plea of not guilty, and his trial—initially scheduled for January 26 at the Henry County Courthouse—has now been moved to April 21.
According to court records, the investigation began on August 27 after law enforcement received information that a package containing narcotics was being sent to King’s home. A joint operation involving the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, the DEA, Iowa State Patrol Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force led to the interception of the shipment on September 2.
Authorities executing a search warrant found the package contained THC vape cartridges, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, drug paraphernalia, packaging materials, scales, and firearms. The package was addressed directly to King’s residence.
King was released on a $20,000 bond after his initial court appearance on September 12.
