An Albia man is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly attempting to engage in sexual activity with someone he believed to be a minor.

Jeffrey LeMay, 55, was arrested this week by a Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy following an investigation into online communications that began in late 2025. Authorities say LeMay believed he was communicating with a 15-year-old from Larchwood.

Court documents allege that during these conversations, LeMay tried to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice the individual into unlawful sexual activity. He is also accused of sending obscene material to the person he thought was a minor.

LeMay has been charged with grooming, a Class D felony that carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years if he is convicted. In addition, he faces three misdemeanor counts for allegedly sending obscene material to a minor via telephone.

A preliminary hearing for LeMay is scheduled for February 6. He is currently being held at the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids on an $11,000 bond.
