Edith Merilyn Walters, 89, of Agency, died at 11:38 a.m. January 7, 2026 at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.
She was born July 4, 1936 in Macomb, IL to Earl O. and Edith L. Parks Walters. She was a graduate of Western High School in Macomb, IL, moving to Milton, IA in 1956 and then to Agency in 1968.
Growing up, Merilyn worked with her parents and brother on their farm. Merilyn was a licensed practical nurse for 40 years, and operated Walters Private Care Home in Agency for 28 years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottumwa. Merilyn read her Bible every day.
She loved her flowers and enjoyed giving produce to people from her big gardens. She loved to cook, make quilts, crafting and taking care of her mother. She especially loved her dogs, Tiffany, Sweetie Baby and Sweetheart.
Surviving is several cousins including, D’Ann Garrison, Jossett Eldridge, Jolene Eldridge, Becky Faxon and Rebecca Darrington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin brother, Earl Merlin Walters; and cousin, Dale (Marian) Garrison.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 12th at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. James Preus officiating. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery in Astoria, IL.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottumwa.
